Hosea 9:15

9:15 Because of all their evil in Gilgal,

I hate them there.

On account of their evil deeds,

I will drive them out of my land. ¹ 

I will no longer love them;

all their rulers are rebels.

Amos 6:8

6:8 The sovereign Lord confirms this oath by his very own life. ² 

The Lord, the God who commands armies, is speaking:

“I despise Jacob’s arrogance;

I hate their ³  fortresses.

I will hand over to their enemies ⁴  the city of Samaria ⁵  and everything in it.”

Zechariah 11:8

11:8 Next I eradicated the three shepherds in one month, ⁶  for I ran out of patience with them and, indeed, they detested me as well.

[6:8]  ² tn Heb “swears by his life”; or “swears by himself.”

[6:8]  ³ tn Heb “his,” referring to Jacob, which stands here for the nation of Israel.

[6:8]  ⁴ tn The words “to their enemies” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[6:8]  ⁵ tn Heb “the city”; this probably refers to the city of Samaria (cf. 6:1), which in turn, by metonymy, represents the entire northern kingdom.

[11:8]  ⁶ sn Zechariah is only dramatizing what God had done historically (see the note on the word “cedars” in 11:1). The “one month” probably means just any short period of time in which three kings ruled in succession. Likely candidates are Elah, Zimri, Tibni (1 Kgs 16:8-20); Zechariah, Shallum, Menahem (2 Kgs 15:8-16); or Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, Zedekiah (2 Kgs 24:1–25:7).
