[54:8]  1 tn According to BDB 1009 s.v. שֶׁטֶף the noun שֶׁצֶף here is an alternate form of שֶׁטֶף (shetef, “flood”). Some relate the word to an alleged Akkadian cognate meaning “strength.”

But the expanded form of the promise, which includes numerous descendants and eternal possession of the land, remains to be ratified. [17:2]  9 tn Heb “I will multiply you exceedingly, exceedingly.” The repetition is emphatic.

Both translations are intended to reflect the difference in psychology.

[32:40]  14 tn The words “never again” are not in the text but are implicit from the context and are supplied not only by this translation but by a number of others.

[50:5]  15 tc The translation here assumes that the Hebrew בֹּאוּ (bou; a Qal imperative masculine plural) should be read בָּאוּ (bau; a Qal perfect third plural). This reading is presupposed by the Greek version of Aquila, the Latin version, and the Targum (see BHS note a, which mistakenly assumes that the form must be imperfect).
