Isaiah 66:12

Context

66:12 For this is what the Lord says:

“Look, I am ready to extend to her prosperity that will flow like a river,

the riches of nations will flow into her like a stream that floods its banks. 1

You will nurse from her breast 2  and be carried at her side;

you will play on her knees.

Isaiah 66:19

Context
66:19 I will perform a mighty act among them 3  and then send some of those who remain to the nations – to Tarshish, Pul, 4  Lud 5  (known for its archers 6 ), Tubal, Javan, 7  and to the distant coastlands 8  that have not heard about me or seen my splendor. They will tell the nations of my splendor.

Daniel 9:27

Context

9:27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one week. 9

But in the middle of that week

he will bring sacrifices and offerings to a halt.

On the wing 10  of abominations will come 11  one who destroys,

until the decreed end is poured out on the one who destroys.”

Daniel 12:7

Context
12:7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen who was over the waters of the river as he raised both his right and left hands to the sky 12  and made an oath by the one who lives forever: “It is for a time, times, and half a time. Then, when the power of the one who shatters 13  the holy people has been exhausted, all these things will be finished.”

Malachi 1:11

Context
1:11 For from the east to the west my name will be great among the nations. Incense and pure offerings will be offered in my name everywhere, for my name will be great among the nations,” 14  says the Lord who rules over all.

Romans 11:25

Context

11:25 For I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, 15  so that you may not be conceited: A partial hardening has happened to Israel 16  until the full number 17  of the Gentiles has come in.

[66:12]  1 tn Heb “Look, I am ready to extend to her like a river prosperity [or “peace”], and like an overflowing stream, the riches of nations.”

[66:12]  2 tn The words “from her breast” are supplied in the translation for clarification (see v. 11).

[66:19]  3 tn Heb “and I will set a sign among them.” The precise meaning of this statement is unclear. Elsewhere “to set a sign” means “perform a mighty act” (Ps 78:43; Jer 32:20), “make [someone] an object lesson” (Ezek 14:8), and “erect a [literal] standard” (Ps 74:4).

[66:19]  4 tn Some prefer to read “Put” (i.e., Libya).

[66:19]  5 sn That is, Lydia (in Asia Minor).

[66:19]  6 tn Heb “drawers of the bow” (KJV and ASV both similar).

[66:19]  7 sn Javan is generally identified today as Greece (so NIV, NCV, NLT).

[66:19]  8 tn Or “islands” (NIV).

[9:27]  9 tn Heb “one seven” (also later in this line).

[9:27]  10 tn The referent of the Hebrew word כְּנַף (kÿnaf, “wing”) is unclear here. The LXX and Theodotion have “the temple.” Some English versions (e.g., NAB, NIV) take this to mean “a wing of the temple,” but this is not clear.

[9:27]  11 tn The Hebrew text does not have this verb, but it has been supplied in the translation for clarity.

[12:7]  12 tn Or “to the heavens.” The Hebrew term שָׁמַיִם (shamayim) may be translated “heavens” or “sky” depending on the context.

[12:7]  13 tc The present translation reads יַד־נֹפֵץ (yad-nofets, “hand of one who shatters”) rather than the MT נַפֵּץ־יַד (nappets-yad, “to shatter the hand”).

[1:11]  14 sn My name will be great among the nations. In what is clearly a strongly ironic shift of thought, the Lord contrasts the unbelief and virtual paganism of the postexilic community with the conversion and obedience of the nations that will one day worship the God of Israel.

[11:25]  15 tn Grk “brothers.” See note on the phrase “brothers and sisters” in 1:13.

[11:25]  16 tn Or “Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.”

[11:25]  17 tn Grk “fullness.”
