Isaiah 7:19

7:19 All of them will come and make their home ¹  in the ravines between the cliffs, and in the crevices of the cliffs, in all the thorn bushes, and in all the watering holes. ² 

Isaiah 14:23

14:23 “I will turn her into a place that is overrun with wild animals ³ 

and covered with pools of stagnant water.

I will get rid of her, just as one sweeps away dirt with a broom,” ⁴ 

says the Lord who commands armies.

Isaiah 43:3-4

43:3 For I am the Lord your God,

the Holy One of Israel, ⁵  your deliverer.

I have handed over Egypt as a ransom price,

Ethiopia and Seba ⁶  in place of you.

I will hand over people in place of you,

[7:19]  ² tn The meaning of this word (נַהֲלֹל, nahalol) is uncertain; some understand this as referring to another type of thorn bush. For bibliography, see HALOT 676 s.v. I *נַהֲלֹל.

[14:23]  ³ tn Heb “I will make her into a possession of wild animals.” It is uncertain what type of animal קִפֹּד (qippod) refers to. Some suggest a rodent (cf. NASB, NRSV “hedgehog”), others an owl (cf, NAB, NIV, TEV).

[14:23]  ⁴ tn Heb “I will sweep her away with the broom of destruction.”
