Jeremiah 13:23

13:23

Ethiopian <03569> [Ethiopian.]

accustomed <03928> [accustomed. Heb. taught.]

Matthew 7:3-5

7:3

Why <5101> [why.]

but <1161> [but.]

7:5

hypocrite <5273> [Thou hypocrite.]

First <4412> [first.]

Matthew 19:24-25

19:24

<2076> [It.]

So in the Koran, "The impious, who in his arrogance shall accuse our doctrine of falsity, shall find the gates of heaven shut; nor shall he enter till a camel shall pass through the eye of a needle." It was a common mode of expression among the Jews to declare any thing that was rare or difficult.

19:25

who <5101> [Who.]

Matthew 23:24

23:24

Luke 18:25

18:25

a camel <2574> [a camel.]

Some render a cable; but it may justly be doubted whether [kamelos <\\See definition 2574\\>] ever was so translated before, for the word for a cable, as the scholiast on Aristophanes expressly affirms, is written [kamilos,] not with an "e" [eta], but with an "i" [iota.] Some few MSS., it is true, have got the word [kamilos] into the text, but it is evidently an attempted improvement.
