And see 2  the lofty stars, 3  how high they are!

Hebrews 8:1-2

Context
The High Priest of a Better Covenant

8:1 Now the main point of what we are saying is this: 4  We have such a high priest, one who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 5  8:2 a minister in the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that the Lord, not man, set up.

Hebrews 9:23-24

Context
9:23 So it was necessary for the sketches 6  of the things in heaven to be purified with these sacrifices, 7  but the heavenly things themselves required 8  better sacrifices than these. 9:24 For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with hands – the representation 9  of the true sanctuary 10  – but into heaven itself, and he appears now in God’s presence for us.

[22:12]  1 tn This reading preserves the text as it is. The nouns “high” and “heavens” would then be taken as adverbial accusatives of place (see GKC 373-74 §118.g).

[22:12]  2 tn The parallel passage in Isa 40:26-27, as well as the context here, shows that the imperative is to be retained here. The LXX has “he sees.”

[22:12]  3 tn Heb “head of the stars.”

[8:1]  4 tn Grk “the main point of the things being said.”

[8:1]  5 sn An allusion to Ps 110:1; see Heb 1:3, 13.

[9:23]  6 tn Or “prototypes,” “outlines,” referring to the earthly sanctuary. See Heb 8:5 above for the prior use of this term.

[9:23]  7 tn Grk “with these”; in the translation the referent (sacrifices) has been specified for clarity.

[9:23]  8 tn Grk “the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.”

[9:24]  9 tn Or “prefiguration.”

[9:24]  10 tn The word “sanctuary” is not in the Greek text at this point, but has been supplied for clarity.
