Job 31:7

if my heart has gone after my eyes, 1
or if anything 2 has defiled my hands,
Job 38:19
Context38:19 “In what direction 3 does light reside,

Job 38:24
Context38:24 In what direction is lightning 4 dispersed,
or the east winds scattered over the earth?

[31:7] 1 sn The meaning is “been led by what my eyes see.”
[31:7] 2 tc The word מֻאוּם (mu’um) could be taken in one of two ways. One reading is to represent מוּם (mum, “blemish,” see the Masorah); the other is for מְאוּמָה (mÿ’umah, “anything,” see the versions and the Kethib). Either reading fits the passage.
[38:19] 3 tn The interrogative with דֶרֶךְ (derekh) means “in what road” or “in what direction.”
[38:24] 5 tn Because the parallel with “light” and “east wind” is not tight, Hoffmann proposed ‘ed instead, “mist.” This has been adopted by many. G. R. Driver suggests “parching heat” (“Problems in the Hebrew text of Job,” VTSup 3 [1955]: 91-92).
