Joshua 11:21-22
Context11:21 At that time Joshua attacked and eliminated the Anakites from the hill country 1 – from Hebron, Debir, Anab, and all the hill country of Judah and Israel. 2 Joshua annihilated them and their cities. 11:22 No Anakites were left in Israelite territory, though some remained in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod.
Numbers 13:28
Context13:28 But 3 the inhabitants 4 are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. Moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there.

Context13:33 We even saw the Nephilim 5 there (the descendants of Anak came from the Nephilim), and we seemed liked grasshoppers both to ourselves 6 and to them.” 7

[13:28] 3 tn The word (אֶפֶס, ’efes) forms a very strong adversative. The land was indeed rich and fruitful, but….”
[13:28] 4 tn Heb “the people who are living in the land.”
[13:33] 5 tc The Greek version uses gigantes (“giants”) to translate “the Nephilim,” but it does not retain the clause “the sons of Anak are from the Nephilim.”
