Leviticus 16:12

Context
16:12 and take a censer full of coals of fire from the altar before the Lord 1  and a full double handful of finely ground fragrant incense, 2  and bring them inside the veil-canopy. 3

Hebrews 9:22-26

Context
9:22 Indeed according to the law almost everything was purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. 9:23 So it was necessary for the sketches 4  of the things in heaven to be purified with these sacrifices, 5  but the heavenly things themselves required 6  better sacrifices than these. 9:24 For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with hands – the representation 7  of the true sanctuary 8  – but into heaven itself, and he appears now in God’s presence for us. 9:25 And he did not enter to offer 9  himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the sanctuary year after year with blood that is not his own, 9:26 for then he would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the consummation of the ages to put away sin by his sacrifice.

Hebrews 13:10

Context
13:10 We have an altar that those who serve in the tabernacle have no right to eat from.

Revelation 8:3-5

Context
8:3 Another 10  angel holding 11  a golden censer 12  came and was stationed 13  at the altar. A 14  large amount of incense was given to him to offer up, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar that is before the throne. 8:4 The 15  smoke coming from the incense, 16  along with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. 8:5 Then 17  the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it on the earth, and there were crashes of thunder, roaring, 18  flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

[16:12]  1 tn Heb “and he shall take the fullness of the censer, coals of fire, from on the altar from to the faces of the Lord.”

[16:12]  2 tn Heb “and the fullness of the hollow of his two hands, finely ground fragrant incense.”

[16:12]  3 tn Heb “and he shall bring from house to the veil-canopy.”

[9:23]  4 tn Or “prototypes,” “outlines,” referring to the earthly sanctuary. See Heb 8:5 above for the prior use of this term.

[9:23]  5 tn Grk “with these”; in the translation the referent (sacrifices) has been specified for clarity.

[9:23]  6 tn Grk “the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.”

[9:24]  7 tn Or “prefiguration.”

[9:24]  8 tn The word “sanctuary” is not in the Greek text at this point, but has been supplied for clarity.

[9:25]  9 tn Grk “and not that he might offer,” continuing the previous construction.

[8:3]  10 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[8:3]  11 tn Grk “having.”

[8:3]  12 sn A golden censer was a bowl in which incense was burned. The imagery suggests the OT role of the priest.

[8:3]  13 tn The verb “to station” was used to translate ἑστάθη (Jestaqh) because it connotes the idea of purposeful arrangement in English, which seems to be the idea in the Greek.

[8:3]  14 tn Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation. Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[8:4]  15 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[8:4]  16 tn The expression τῶν θυμιαμάτων (twn qumiamatwn) is taken as a “genitive of producer,” i.e., the noun in the genitive produces the head noun.

[8:5]  17 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the vision.

[8:5]  18 tn Or “sounds,” “voices.” It is not entirely clear what this refers to. BDAG 1071 s.v. φωνή 1 states, “In Rv we have ἀστραπαὶ καὶ φωναὶ καὶ βρονταί (cp. Ex 19:16) 4:5; 8:5; 11:19; 16:18 (are certain other sounds in nature thought of here in addition to thunder, as e.g. the roar of the storm?…).”
