[19:13]  1 tn Heb “You shall not oppress your neighbor and you shall not rob.”

[19:13]  2 tn Heb “hold back with you”; perhaps “hold back for yourself” (cf. NRSV “keep for yourself”).

[2:2]  3 tn Heb “they desire fields and rob [them], and houses and take [them] away.”

[2:2]  4 tn Heb “and they oppress a man and his home.”

[2:2]  5 tn Heb “and a man and his inheritance.” The verb עָשַׁק (’ashaq, “to oppress”; “to wrong”) does double duty in the parallel structure and is understood by ellipsis in the second line.

[3:5]  6 tn The first person pronoun (a reference to the Lord) indicates that the Lord himself now speaks (see also v. 1). The prophet speaks in vv. 2-4 (see also 2:17).

[3:5]  7 tn Heb “those who swear [oaths] falsely.” Cf. NIV “perjurers”; TEV “those who give false testimony”; NLT “liars.”

[3:5]  8 tn Heb “and against the oppressors of the worker for a wage, [the] widow and orphan.”

[3:5]  9 tn Heb “those who turn aside.”

[3:5]  10 tn Or “resident foreigner”; NIV “aliens”; NRSV “the alien.”

[10:19]  11 sn A quotation from Exod 20:12-16; Deut 5:16-20, except for do not defraud, which is an allusion to Deut 24:14.

[3:25]  12 tn Grk “that which he did wrong.”

[3:25]  13 tn The Greek word used here is προσωπολημψία (proswpolhmyia) and is usually translated “partiality.” It is used to describe unjust or unrighteous favoritism (Rom 2:11, Eph 6:9, Jas 2:1). When it comes to disciplining his children for their sins, God will treat all equally with no partiality.
