Context26:36 “‘As for 1 the ones who remain among you, I will bring despair into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a blowing leaf will pursue them, and they will flee as one who flees the sword and fall down even though there is no pursuer. 26:37 They will stumble over each other as those who flee before a sword, though 2 there is no pursuer, and there will be no one to take a stand 3 for you before your enemies.

[26:37] 2 tn Heb “and.” The Hebrew conjunction ו (vav, “and”) is used in a concessive sense here.
[26:37] 3 tn The term rendered “to stand up” is a noun, not an infinitive. It occurs only here and appears to designate someone who would take a powerful stand for them against their enemies.
[14:42] 4 tn This verb could also be subordinated to the preceding: “that you be not smitten.”
[14:45] 6 tn The verb used here means “crush by beating,” or “pounded” them. The Greek text used “cut them in pieces.”
[14:45] 7 tn The name “Hormah” means “destruction”; it is from the word that means “ban, devote” for either destruction or temple use.
[7:5] 8 tn The meaning and correct translation of the Hebrew word שְׁבָרִים (shÿvarim) is uncertain. The translation “fissures” is based on usage of the plural form of the noun in Ps 60:4 HT (60:2 ET), where it appears to refer to cracks in the earth caused by an earthquake. Perhaps deep ravines or gorges are in view, or the word is a proper noun (“all the way to Shebarim”).
[7:5] 9 sn The precise geographical location of the Israelite defeat at this “steep slope” is uncertain.
[7:5] 11 tn Heb “and the heart of the people melted and became water.”
[7:8] 12 tn Heb “turned [the] back.”
