Luke 24:30

24:30 When ¹  he had taken his place at the table ²  with them, he took the bread, blessed and broke it, ³  and gave it to them.

24:42 So ⁴  they gave him a piece of broiled fish, 24:43 and he took it and ate it in front of them.

Acts 10:41

10:41 not by all the people, but by us, the witnesses God had already chosen, ⁵  who ate and drank ⁶  with him after he rose from the dead.

[24:30]  ¹ tn Grk “And it happened that when.” The introductory phrase ἐγένετο (egeneto, “it happened that”), common in Luke (69 times) and Acts (54 times), is redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated. Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[24:30]  ² tn Grk “had reclined at table,” as 1st century middle eastern meals were not eaten while sitting at a table, but while reclining on one’s side on the floor with the head closest to the low table and the feet farthest away.

[24:30]  ³ tn The pronoun “it” is not in the Greek text here or in the following clause, but is implied. Direct objects were frequently omitted in Greek when clear from the context.

[24:42]  ⁴ tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “so” to indicate the implied result of Jesus’ request for food.

[10:41]  ⁵ tn Or “the witnesses God had previously chosen.” See Acts 1:8.
