John 19:30
Context19:30 When 2 he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “It is completed!” 3 Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. 4
[23:46] 1 sn A quotation from Ps 31:5. It is a psalm of trust. The righteous, innocent sufferer trusts in God. Luke does not have the cry of pain from Ps 22:1 (cf. Matt 27:46; Mark 15:34), but notes Jesus’ trust instead.
[19:30] 2 tn Grk “Then when.” Here οὖν (oun) has not been translated for stylistic reasons.
[19:30] 3 tn Or “It is accomplished,” “It is finished,” or “It is ended.” See tn on John 13:1.
[19:30] 4 tn Or “he bowed his head and died”; Grk “he bowed his head and gave over the spirit.”
