• [Luk 10:39] At The Feet Of Jesus

  At the feet of Jesus, Listening to His word; Learning wisdom’s lesson From her loving Lord; Mary, led by heav’nly grace, Chose the meek disciple’s place. At the feet of Jesus Is the place for me, There a humble learner Would I choose to be. At the feet of Jesus, Pouring perfume rare, Mary did her Savior For the grave prepare; And, from love the “good work” done, She her Lord’s approval won. At the feet of Jesus Is the place for me, There, in sweetest service Would I ever be. At the feet of Jesus, In that morning hour, Loving hearts, receiving Resurrection power, Haste with joy to preach the word; “Christ is risen, praise the Lord!” At the feet of Jesus, Risen now for me, I shall sing His praises Through eternity.

  Sitting at the feet of Jesus, Oh, what words I hear Him say! Happy place! so near, so precious! May it find me there each day. Sitting at the feet of Jesus, I would look upon the past; For His love has been so gracious, It has won my heart at last. Sitting at the feet of Jesus, Where can mortal be more blest? There I lay my sins and sorrows And, when weary, find sweet rest. Sitting at the feet of Jesus, There I love to weep and pray, While I from His fullness gather Grace and comfort every day.   Beset with snares on every hand, In life’s uncertain path I stand; Savior divine, diffuse Thy light, To guide my doubtful footsteps right. Engage this roving, treacherous heart To fix on Mary’s better part, To scorn the trifles of a day, For joys that none can take away. • [Luk 10:42] O Love Divine, How Sweet Thou Art

  O love divine, how sweet thou art! When shall I find my willing heart All taken up by thee? I thirst, I faint, I die to prove The greatness of redeeming love, The love of Christ to me. Stronger His love than death or hell; Its reaches are unsearchable; The first born sons of light Desire in vain its depths to see; They cannot reach the mystery The length, and breadth, and height. God only knows the love of God; O that it now were shed abroad In this poor stony heart! For love I sigh, for love I pine; This only portion, Lord, be mine, Be mine this better part. O that I could forever sit With Mary at the Master’s feet; Be this my happy choice; My only care, delight, and bliss, My joy, my heaven on earth, be this To hear the Bridegroom’s voice. O that, with humbled Peter, I Could weep, believe, and thrice reply, My faithfulness to prove. • [Luk 10:42] One Thing’s Needful

  One thing’s needful; Lord this treasure Teach me highly to regard; All else, though it first give pleasure, Is a yoke that presses hard. Beneath it the heart is still fretting and striving, No true, lasting happiness ever deriving. The gain of this one thing all loss can requite And teach me in all things to find true delight. Wilt thou find this one thing needful, Turn from all created things Unto Jesus and be heedful Of the blessèd joy He brings. For where God and Man both in one are united, With God’s perfect fulness the heart is delighted; There, there is the worthiest lot and the best, My One and my All and my Joy and my Rest. How were Mary’s thoughts devoted, Her eternal joy to find As intent each word she noted, At her Savior’s feet reclined! How kindled her heart, how devout was its feeling, While hearing the lessons that Christ was revealing! For Jesus all earthly concerns she forgot, And all was repaid in that one happy lot. Thus my longings, heav’nward tending, Jesus, rest alone on Thee. Help me, thus on Thee depending; Savior, come and dwell in me. Although all the world should forsake and forget Thee, In love I will follow Thee, ne’er will I quit Thee. Lord Jesus, both spirit and life is Thy Word; And is there a joy which Thou dost not afford? Wisdom’s highest, noblest treasure, Jesus, lies concealed in Thee; Grant that this may still the measure Of my will and actions be, Humility there and simplicity reigning, In paths of true wisdom my steps ever training. Oh, if I of Christ have this knowledge divine, The fulness of heavenly wisdom is mine. Naught have I, O Christ, to offer Naught but Thee, my highest Good. Naught have I, O Lord, to proffer But Thy crimson-colored blood. Thy death on the cross hath Death wholly defeated And thereby my righteousness fully completed; Salvation’s white raiments I there did obtain, And in them in glory with Thee I shall reign. Therefore Thou alone, my Savior, Shalt be All in all to me; Search my heart and my behavior, Root out all hypocrisy. Restrain me from wandering on pathways unholy And through all life’s pilgrimage keep my heart lowly. This one thing is needful, all others are vain; I count all but loss that I Christ may obtain.

• [Luk 12:37] How Are Thy Servants Blest, O Lord!

  How are Thy servants blest, O Lord! How sure is their defense! Eternal wisdom is their guide, Their help Omnipotence. In foreign realms, and lands remote, Supported by Thy care, Through burning climes they pass unhurt, And breathe in tainted air. When by the dreadful tempest borne High on the broken wave, They know Thou art not slow to her, Nor impotent to save. The storm is laid, the winds retire, Obedient to Thy will, The sea, that roars at Thy command, At Thy command is still. From all our griefs and fears, O Lord, Thy mercy sets us free; While in the confidence of prayer Our hearts take hold on Thee. In midst of dangers, fears and death, Thy goodness we adore; We praise Thee for Thy mercies past, And humbly hope for more Our life, while Thou preservest life, A sacrifice shall be; And death, when death shall be our lot, Shall join our souls to Thee.

  Ye servants of the Lord, Each in his office wait, Observant of His heavenly Word, And watchful at His gate. Let all your lamps be bright, And trim the golden flame, Gird up your loins, as in His sight, For awful is His Name. Watch: ’tis your Lord’s command, And while we speak He’s near; Mark the first signal of His hand, And ready all appear. O happy servant he, In such a posture found! He shall His Lord with rapture see, And be with honor crowned. Christ shall the banquet spread With His own royal hand, And raise that faithful servant’s head Amid the angelic band.

• [Luk 22:27] Toil Of Brain, Or Heart, Or Hand, The

  The toil of brain, or heart, or hand, Is man’s appointed lot; He who God’s call can understand, Will work and murmur not. Toil is no thorny crown of pain, Bound round man’s brow for sin; True souls, from it, all strength may gain, High manliness may win. O God! Who workest hitherto, Working in all we see, Fain would we be, and bear, and do, As best it pleaseth Thee. Where’er Thou sendest we will go, Nor any question ask, And what Thou biddest we will do, Whatever be the task. Our skill of hand, and strength of limb, Are not our own, but Thine; We link them to the work of Him Who made all life divine! Our brother-friend, Thy holy Son, Shared all our lot and strife; And nobly will our work be done, If molded by His life.
