Leviticus 22:9

22:9 They must keep my charge so that they do not incur sin on account of it ³  and therefore die ⁴  because they profane it. I am the Lord who sanctifies them.

Ezekiel 23:49

23:49 They will repay you for your obscene conduct, and you will be punished for idol worship. ⁵  Then you will know that I am the sovereign Lord.”

Hebrews 9:28

9:28 so also, after Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many, ⁶  to those who eagerly await him he will appear a second time, not to bear sin ⁷  but to bring salvation. ⁸ 

[5:31]  ¹ sn The text does not say what the consequences are. Presumably the punishment would come from God, and not from those administering the test.

[5:31]  ² tn The word “iniquity” can also mean the guilt for the iniquity as well as the punishment of consequences for the iniquity. These categories of meanings grew up through figurative usage (metonymies). Here the idea is that if she is guilty then she must “bear the consequences.”

[22:9]  ³ tn Heb “and they will not lift up on it sin.” The pronoun “it” (masculine) apparently refers to any item of food that belongs to the category of “holy offerings” (see above).

[22:9]  ⁴ tn Heb “and die in it.”

[23:49]  ⁵ tn Heb “and the sins of your idols you will bear.” By extension it can mean the punishment for the sins.

[9:28]  ⁶ sn An allusion to Isa 53:12.

[9:28]  ⁷ tn Grk “without sin,” but in context this does not refer to Christ’s sinlessness (as in Heb 4:15) but to the fact that sin is already dealt with by his first coming.

[9:28]  ⁸ tn Grk “for salvation.” This may be construed with the verb “await” (those who wait for him to bring them salvation), but the connection with “appear” (as in the translation) is more likely.
