[33:11]  1 tn Heb “the thoughts of his heart for generation to generation.” The verb “abides” is supplied in the translation. The Lord’s “decisions” and “plans” here refer to his decrees and purposes.

[119:90]  2 tn Heb “to a generation and a generation [is] your faithfulness.”

[46:10]  3 tn Or “from long ago”; KJV, NASB, NIV, NRSV “from ancient times.”

[4:34]  4 tn Aram “days.”

[4:34]  5 tn Aram “lifted up my eyes.”

[4:35]  6 tc The present translation reads כְּלָא (kÿla’), with many medieval Hebrew MSS, rather than כְּלָה (kÿlah) of BHS.

[4:35]  7 tn Aram “strikes against.”

[2:23]  8 tn Or “you killed.”

[2:23]  9 tn Grk “at the hands of lawless men.” At this point the term ἄνομος (anomo") refers to non-Jews who live outside the Jewish (Mosaic) law, rather than people who broke any or all laws including secular laws. Specifically it is a reference to the Roman soldiers who carried out Jesus’ crucifixion.

[4:28]  10 tn Grk “hand,” here a metaphor for God’s strength or power or authority.

[4:28]  11 tn Or “purpose,” “will.”

[4:28]  12 tn Or “had predestined.” Since the term “predestine” is something of a technical theological term, not in wide usage in contemporary English, the translation “decide beforehand” was used instead (see L&N 30.84). God’s direction remains as the major theme.

[3:11]  13 tn Grk “according to.” The verse is a prepositional phrase subordinate to v. 10.

[1:2]  14 tn Grk “before eternal ages.”

[1:17]  15 tn The first phrase refers to the action of giving and the second to what is given.

[1:17]  16 tn Or “All generous giving and every perfect gift from above is coming down.”

[1:17]  17 tn Grk “variation or shadow of turning” (referring to the motions of heavenly bodies causing variations of light and darkness).
