106:37 They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons. ¹

90:16 May your servants see your work! ² 

May their sons see your majesty! ³ 

Psalms 106:38

106:38 They shed innocent blood –

the blood of their sons and daughters,

whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan.

The land was polluted by bloodshed. ⁴ 

Psalms 132:12

132:12 If your sons keep my covenant

and the rules I teach them,

their sons will also sit on your throne forever.”

[106:37]  ¹ tn The Hebrew term שֵׁדִים (shedim, “demons”) occurs only here and in Deut 32:17. Some type of lesser deity is probably in view.

[90:16]  ² tn Heb “may your work be revealed to your servants.” In this context (note v. 17) the verb form יֵרָאֶה (yera’eh) is best understood as an unshortened jussive (see Gen 1:9; Isa 47:3).

[90:16]  ³ tn Heb “and your majesty to their sons.” The verb “be revealed” is understood by ellipsis in the second line.

[106:38]  ³ sn Num 35:33-34 explains that bloodshed defiles a land.
