• [Psa 119:41] Let Everlasting Glories Crown

  Let everlasting glories crown Thy head, my Savior and my Lord; Thy hands have brought salvation down, And writ the blessings in Thy Word. What if we trace the globe around, And search from Britain to Japan, There shall be no religion found So just to God, so safe for man. In vain the trembling conscience seeks Some solid ground to rest upon; With long despair the spirit breaks, Till we apply to Christ alone. How well Thy blessèd truths agree! How wise and holy Thy commands! Thy promises, how firm they be! How firm our hope and comfort stands. Not the feigned fields of heath’nish bliss Could raise such pleasures in the mind; Nor does the Turkish paradise Pretend to joys so well refined. Should all the forms that men devise Assault my faith with treach’rous art, I’d call them vanity and lies, And bind the Gospel to my heart.

  Thy promised mercies send to me, Thy great salvation, Lord; So shall I answer those who scoff: My trust is Thy Word. My hope is in Thy judgment, Lord; Take not Thy truth from me; And in Thy law forevermore My daily walk shall be. And I will walk at liberty Because Thy truth I seek; Thy truth before the kings of earth With boldness I will speak.   Thou, Lord, hast dealt well with Thy servant, Thy promise is faithful and just; Instruct me in judgment and knowledge, For in Thy commandments I trust. Before my affliction I wandered, But now Thy good Word I obey; O Thou Who art holy and gracious, Now teach me Thy statutes, I pray. The proud have assailed me with slander; Thy precepts shall still be my guide; Thy law is my joy and my treasure, Though sinners may boast in their pride. Affliction has been for my profit, That I to Thy statutes might hold; Thy law to my soul is more precious Than thousands of silver and gold.

• [Psa 119:170] Lord Jesus Christ, My Savior Blest

  Lord Jesus Christ, my Savior blest, My Hope and my Salvation! I trust in Thee; deliver me from misery; Thy Word’s my consolation. As Thou dost will, lead Thou me still That I may truly serve Thee, My God, I pray, teach me Thy way to my last day In Thy true faith preserve me. Most heartily I trust in Thee; Thy mercy fails me never. Dear Lord, abide; my Helper tried, Thou Crucified, From evil keep me ever. Now henceforth must I put my trust In Thee, O dearest Savior. Thy comfort choice, Thy Word and voice, my heart rejoice Despite my ill behavior. When sorrows rise, my refuge lies In Thy compassion tender. Within Thine arm can naught alarm; keep me from harm, Be Thou my strong Defender. I have Thy Word, Christ Jesus, Lord; Thou never wilt forsake me. This will I plead in time of need.   To Thy temple holy, come we now with praise; Thou, the meek and lowly, guide us to Thy ways; To Thy courts ascending, though unworthy we; Let our worship, blending, swell Thy harmony. Not with ostentation, not with proud acclaim, Come we, Lord and Master, to extol Thy Name; But with Christly spirit, humble and sincere, Pleading but Thy merit, we Thy Name revere. For Thy Holy Spirit earnestly we plead, Visit us, bestowing grace for all our need, Sanctify our worship to Thy glory, Lord; Grant us spirits eager to receive Thy Word.   In God’s Word it is recorded That this world will not endure; Then while time is yet afforded Make your hope of Heaven sure; For the stars, before the morning, From their orbits may be hurled, And the moon may send a warning That tonight will end the world.   Lord, Thy Word abideth, And our footsteps guideth; Who its truth believeth Light and joy receiveth. When our foes are near us, Then Thy Word doth cheer us, Word of consolation, Message of salvation. When the storms are o’er us, And dark clouds before us, Then its light directeth, And our way protecteth.   There’s a dear and precious Book, Though it’s worn and faded now, Which recalls those happy days of long ago, When I stood at mother’s knee, With her hand upon my brow, And I heard her voice in gentle tones and low.   ’Mid the storms of doubt and unbelief, we fear, Stands a Book eternal that the saints hold dear; Thro’ the restless ages it remains the same— ’Tis the Book of God, and the Bible is its name!   Standing at the portal Of the opening year, Words of comfort meet us, Hushing every fear; Spoken thru the silence By our Savior’s voice, Tender, strong and faithful, Making us rejoice.   The starry firmament on high, And all the glories of the sky, Yet shine not to Thy praise, O Lord, So brightly as Thy written Word. The hopes that holy Word supplies, Its truths divine and precepts wise, In each a heavenly beam I see, And every beam conducts to Thee. Almighty Lord, the sun shall fail, The moon forget her nightly tale, And deepest silence hush on high, The radiant chorus of the sky. But, fixed, for everlasting years, Unmoved amid the wreck of spheres, Thy Word shall shine in cloudless day, When Heaven and earth have passed away.
