[25:11]  1 tn Heb “name.” By forgiving the sinful psalmist, the Lord’s reputation as a merciful God will be enhanced.

[25:11]  2 sn Forgive my sin, because it is great. The psalmist readily admits his desperate need for forgiveness.

[31:3]  3 sn The metaphor of the high ridge pictures God as a rocky, relatively inaccessible summit, where one would be able to find protection from enemies. See 1 Sam 23:25, 28.

[31:3]  4 tn Heb “name.” The Hebrew term שֵׁם (shem, “name”) refers here to the Lord’s reputation. (The English term “name” is often used the same way.)

[31:3]  5 tn The present translation assumes that the imperfect verbal forms are generalizing, “you lead me and guide me.” Other options are to take them as an expression of confidence about the future, “you will lead me and guide me” (cf. NASB), or as expressing a prayer, “lead me and guide me” (cf. NEB, NIV, NRSV).

[69:29]  6 tn Heb “your deliverance, O God, may it protect me.”

[79:9]  7 tn Heb “the glory of your name.” Here and in the following line “name” stands metonymically for God’s reputation.

[79:9]  8 tn Heb “your name.”

[79:10]  9 tn Heb “may it be known among the nations, to our eyes, the vengeance of the shed blood of your servants.”

[143:11]  10 tn Heb “name,” which here stands metonymically for God’s reputation.

[143:11]  11 tn The imperfect verbal forms in vv. 11-12a are understood as expressing the psalmist’s desire. Note the petitionary tone of vv. 7-10a.

[143:11]  12 tn Heb “by your justice bring out my life from trouble.”

[143:12]  13 tn Heb “in [or “by”] your faithfulness.”

[143:12]  14 tn The perfect with vav (ו) consecutive carries on the mood of the preceding imperfect.

[143:12]  15 tn Heb “all the enemies of my life.”

[17:1]  16 tn Grk “he raised his eyes” (an idiom).

[17:1]  17 tn Or “to the sky.” The Greek word οὐρανός (ouranos) may be translated “sky” or “heaven” depending on the context.

[17:1]  18 tn Grk “the hour.”

[17:1]  19 tc The better witnesses (א B C* W 0109 0301) have “the Son” (ὁ υἱός, Jo Juios) here, while the majority (C3 L Ψ Ë13 33 Ï) read “your Son also” (καὶ ὁ υἱὸς σου, kai Jo Juio" sou), or “your Son” (ὁ υἱὸς σου; A D Θ 0250 1 579 pc lat sy); the second corrector of C has καὶ ὁ υἱός (“the Son also”). The longer readings appear to be predictable scribal expansions and as such should be considered secondary.
