[62:8]  1 tn To “pour out one’s heart” means to offer up to God intense, emotional lamentation and petitionary prayers (see Lam 2:19).

[125:1]  2 sn Psalm 125. The psalmist affirms his confidence in the Lord’s protection and justice.

[125:1]  3 sn The precise significance of this title, which appears in Pss 120-134, is unclear. Perhaps worshipers recited these psalms when they ascended the road to Jerusalem to celebrate annual religious festivals. For a discussion of their background see L. C. Allen, Psalms 101-150 (WBC), 219-21.

[130:7]  4 tn Heb “for with the Lord [is] loyal love.”

[130:7]  5 tn Heb “and abundantly with him [is] redemption.”

[146:6]  6 tn Heb “the one who guards faithfulness forever.”

[17:17]  7 tn Heb “do not be a source of dismay for me.” For this nuance of מְחִתָּה (mÿkhittah) rather than “terror” as many of the English versions have it see BDB 370 s.v. מְחִתָּה 1.b and the usage in Prov 21:15. Compare also the usage of the related verb which occurs in the next verse (see also BDB 369 s.v. חָתַת Qal.2).

[17:18]  8 tn Or “complete destruction.” See the translator’s note on 16:18.

[1:12]  9 tn Or “who had already hoped.”

[1:12]  10 tn Or “the Messiah.”
