  Hush, my soul, what voice is pleading? Thou canst feel its silent power; Who is this that speaks so gently In this solemn evening hour? “Stay, poor sinner; life is fleeting, And thy soul is dark within; Wilt thou wait till outer darkness Close in gloom thy life of sin?” Hark! it is a voice of sweetness, Tenderly it speaks, and true! Dark and sad, yet strangely yearning, For a peace I never knew. Half inclined to stay and listen, Half inclined to go away; Still I linger, for it whispers, “Harden not thy heart today.” What is this that steals beside me? Can it be that at my side, In His own mysterious presence, Stands the wondrous Crucified? “Why poor sinner, wilt thou linger? I am waiting to forgive; See the meaning of these wound prints; I have died that thou mayest live!” Hush, my soul! It is thy Savior!   I have heard Thy voice, Lord Jesus, Saying in Thy grace divine: “Fear thou not, I have redeemed thee; I have called thee, thou art Mine.” Lord, I bring Thee full allegiance! Therefore now to Thee I sing, Answ’ring, “Yea, Thou hast redeemed me; I am Thine, my Lord, my King!” I have nothing worth Thy taking, Thou, whom heav’nly hosts adore, But my heart is longing, yearning, To be Thine forevermore. • [Jos 24:15] Once To Every Man And Nation

  Once to every man and nation, comes the moment to decide, In the strife of truth with falsehood, for the good or evil side; Some great cause, some great decision, offering each the bloom or blight, And the choice goes by forever, ’twixt that darkness and that light. Then to side with truth is noble, when we share her wretched crust, Ere her cause bring fame and profit, and ’tis prosperous to be just; Then it is the brave man chooses while the coward stands aside, Till the multitude make virtue of the faith they had denied. By the light of burning martyrs, Christ, Thy bleeding feet we track, Toiling up new Calv’ries ever with the cross that turns not back; New occasions teach new duties, time makes ancient good uncouth, They must upward still and onward, who would keep abreast of truth. • [Jos 24:21] Believing Fathers Oft Have Told

  Believing fathers oft have told What things by God were done, When faithful men in days of old Their lifelong battle won; And now when God calls us to life, And Satan tempts each man, We choose our side in th’mortal strife To fight as best we can— Like brothers true, of one accord, To hold one faith and serve one Lord. Our King has come to claim His own, Has paid the debt we owe, Himself has fought the fight alone, In straits we cannot know. Amid the world’s confusèd noise, Where we but darkly see, The Christ appeals, with sweet, clear voice, “My brothers, follow Me”— Like brothers true, of one accord, To hold one faith, to serve one Lord. His Church our shelter, He our Guide, Our strength His healing cross, We range ourselves upon His side, Where none can suffer loss. We’re safe behind our Savior’s shield; He makes us heirs of Heaven; We claim upon th’embattled field The victory Christ has given— Like brothers true, of one accord, To hold one faith, to serve one Lord. And yet, O Christ, our Savior King, Unless Thou keep us Thine, Our faith will soon dry at the spring, Our love will shrink and pine. So by Thy Spirit mold us, Lord; Inspire our hearts to pray; Our hungry souls feed with Thy Word, And teach our lips to say, “True brothers we, of one accord, We hold one faith, we serve one Lord.” We fain would do our Master’s part, And help our fellow men, Would cheer some lonely brother’s heart, Some lost one bring again, Would serve the Church abroad, at home, With hearts from self set free, Striving to make Thy kingdom come. O God, so may it be, That, brothers true, with one accord, We hold the faith and serve the Lord!
