Colossians 1:12

[12:18]  ¹ tn Here ἄνθρωπος (anqrwpo") is used as a generic and refers to both men and women.

[12:1]  ² tn Grk “brothers.” See note on the phrase “brothers and sisters” in 1:13.

[12:1]  ³ tn The participle and two adjectives “alive, holy, and pleasing to God” are taken as predicates in relation to “sacrifice,” making the exhortation more emphatic. See ExSyn 618-19.

[8:18]  ⁴ tn Grk “are not worthy [to be compared].”

[14:2]  ⁵ sn The suggestion here is that Jesus was too popular to openly arrest him. The verb were trying is imperfect. It suggests, in this context, that they were always considering the opportunities.

[1:12]  ⁶ tn BDAG 473 s.v. ἱκανόω states, “τινὰ εἴς τι someone for someth. Col 1:12.” The point of the text is that God has qualified the saints for a “share” or “portion” in the inheritance of the saints.

[1:12]  ⁷ tn Grk “the inheritance of the saints.” The genitive noun τῶν ἁγίων (twn Jagiwn) is a possessive genitive: “the saints’ inheritance.”
