How then would the scriptures that say it must happen this way be fulfilled?”

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures,

For these things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled, “Not a bone of his will be broken.”

And again another scripture says, “They will look on the one whom they have pierced.”

(For they did not yet understand the scripture that Jesus must rise from the dead.)

This gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures,

For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures,

Above all, you do well if you recognize this: No prophecy of scripture ever comes about by the prophet’s own imagination,

Have you not read this scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

Then he began to tell them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled even as you heard it being read.”

Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things written about himself in all the scriptures.

After this Jesus, realizing that by this time everything was completed, said (in order to fulfill the scripture), “I am thirsty!”

for he refuted the Jews vigorously in public debate, demonstrating from the scriptures that the Christ was Jesus.

For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

For the scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and, “The worker deserves his pay.”

Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

But if you fulfill the royal law as expressed in this scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.

Or do you think the scripture means nothing when it says, “The spirit that God caused to live within us has an envious yearning”?

Jesus answered them, “You are deceived, because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God.
