Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

Then he bent over again and wrote on the ground.

He wrote a letter that went like this:

just as it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one,

for it is written, “You shall be holy, because I am holy.”

These things I have written to you about those who are trying to deceive you.

I have many things to write to you, but I do not wish to write to you with pen and ink.

I am writing to you, fathers, that you have known him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young people, that you have conquered the evil one.

Pilate also had a notice written and fastened to the cross, which read: “Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews.”

They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her.”

So it seemed good to me as well, because I have followed all things carefully from the beginning, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,

for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,’

because these are days of vengeance, to fulfill all that is written.
