But those tenants seized his slave, beat him, and sent him away empty-handed.

Now the men who were holding Jesus under guard began to mock him and beat him.

So I do not run uncertainly or box like one who hits only air.

He sent another, and that one they killed. This happened to many others, some of whom were beaten, others killed.

So he sent another slave. They beat this one too, treated him outrageously, and sent him away empty-handed.

Jesus replied, “If I have said something wrong, confirm what is wrong. But if I spoke correctly, why strike me?”

But the tenants seized his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.

“You must watch out for yourselves. You will be handed over to councils and beaten in the synagogues. You will stand before governors and kings because of me, as a witness to them.

That servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or do what his master asked will receive a severe beating.

When harvest time came, he sent a slave to the tenants so that they would give him his portion of the crop. However, the tenants beat his slave and sent him away empty-handed.

and they summoned the apostles and had them beaten. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.

I replied, ‘Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat those in the various synagogues who believed in you.

For you put up with it if someone makes slaves of you, if someone exploits you, if someone takes advantage of you, if someone behaves arrogantly toward you, if someone strikes you in the face.

But the one who did not know his master’s will and did things worthy of punishment will receive a light beating. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required, and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be asked.

But Paul said to the police officers, “They had us beaten in public without a proper trial – even though we are Roman citizens – and they threw us in prison. And now they want to send us away secretly? Absolutely not! They themselves must come and escort us out!”
