And if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah, who is to come.

Then Moses and Elijah also appeared before them, talking with him.

He answered, “Elijah does indeed come first and will restore all things.

When some of the bystanders heard it, they said, “This man is calling for Elijah.”

Then Elijah appeared before them along with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.

When some of the bystanders heard it they said, “Listen, he is calling for Elijah!”

Then two men, Moses and Elijah, began talking with him.

They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

Then they asked him, “Why do the experts in the law say that Elijah must come first?”

But I tell you that Elijah has certainly come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written about him.”

Yet Elijah was sent to none of them, but only to a woman who was a widow at Zarephath in Sidon.

while others were saying that Elijah had appeared, and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had risen.

The disciples asked him, “Why then do the experts in the law say that Elijah must come first?”

They said, “John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others, one of the prophets.”

Then someone ran, filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Leave him alone! Let’s see if Elijah will come to take him down!”

And he will go as forerunner before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him.”

They answered, “John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others that one of the prophets of long ago has risen.”

So they asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not!” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No!”

So they asked John, “Why then are you baptizing if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
