Then he said to them, “Do you still not understand?”

They replied as Jesus had told them, and the bystanders let them go.

What I say to you I say to everyone: Stay alert!”

(because they said, “He has an unclean spirit”).

Then he warned them not to tell anyone about him.

Some stood up and gave this false testimony against him:

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

Then they asked him, “Why do the experts in the law say that Elijah must come first?”

Sadducees (who say there is no resurrection) also came to him and asked him,

So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Then Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”

His disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing against you and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”

Then, gently taking the child by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up.”

He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five – and two fish.”

Sighing deeply in his spirit he said, “Why does this generation look for a sign? I tell you the truth, no sign will be given to this generation.”

They said, “John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others, one of the prophets.”

He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.”

So they brought one, and he said to them, “Whose image is this, and whose inscription?” They replied, “Caesar’s.”

While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he said, “How is it that the experts in the law say that the Christ is David’s son?

Jesus said to him, “I tell you the truth, today – this very night – before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”

But he denied it: “I don’t even understand what you’re talking about!” Then he went out to the gateway, and a rooster crowed.
