He appointed twelve: To Simon he gave the name Peter;

Peter said to him, “Even if they all fall away, I will not!”

He spoke openly about this. So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.

Peter began to speak to him, “Look, we have left everything to follow you!”

Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered.”

He took Peter, James, and John with him, and became very troubled and distressed.

Now while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the high priest’s slave girls came by.

He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.

He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.”

So while he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately,

Then he came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you stay awake for one hour?

When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked directly at him and said, “You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus.”

But he denied it again. A short time later the bystanders again said to Peter, “You must be one of them, because you are also a Galilean.”

But go, tell his disciples, even Peter, that he is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you.”

But after turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan. You are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but on man’s.”

Six days later Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John and led them alone up a high mountain privately. And he was transfigured before them,

So Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three shelters – one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

And Peter had followed him from a distance, up to the high priest’s courtyard. He was sitting with the guards and warming himself by the fire.

Immediately a rooster crowed a second time. Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said to him: “Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

They went out and proclaimed everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through the accompanying signs.]]
