Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

They said, “John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others, one of the prophets.”

They answered, “John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others that one of the prophets of long ago has risen.”

Some people said, “This is the man!” while others said, “No, but he looks like him.” The man himself kept insisting, “I am the one!”

Two or three prophets should speak and the others should evaluate what is said.

They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

Others are the ones sown among thorns: They are those who hear the word,

Many spread their cloaks on the road and others spread branches they had cut in the fields.
