(because they said, “He has an unclean spirit”).

They also said many other things against him, reviling him.

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

Others said, “This is the Christ!” But still others said, “No, for the Christ doesn’t come from Galilee, does he?

Some people said, “This is the man!” while others said, “No, but he looks like him.” The man himself kept insisting, “I am the one!”

But the Pharisees said, “By the ruler of demons he casts out demons.”

But they said, “Not during the feast, so that there won’t be a riot among the people.”

In the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law and elders – were mocking him:

When some of the bystanders heard it, they said, “This man is calling for Elijah.”

When his family heard this they went out to restrain him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

For they said, “Not during the feast, so there won’t be a riot among the people.”

When some of the bystanders heard it they said, “Listen, he is calling for Elijah!”

So the disciples began to say to one another, “No one brought him anything to eat, did they?”

So they asked him, “How then were you made to see?”

Thus the people who had come to mourn said, “Look how much he loved him!”

But others jeered at the speakers, saying, “They are drunk on new wine!”

Surely you recall that I used to tell you these things while I was still with you.

And the four living creatures were saying “Amen,” and the elders threw themselves to the ground and worshiped.

There was a lot of grumbling about him among the crowds. Some were saying, “He is a good man,” but others, “He deceives the common people.”

All the crowds were amazed and said, “Could this one be the Son of David?”
