(because they said, “He has an unclean spirit”).

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

When his family heard this they went out to restrain him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

For they said, “Not during the feast, so there won’t be a riot among the people.”

When some of the bystanders heard it they said, “Listen, he is calling for Elijah!”

So the Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is against the law on the Sabbath?”

Some people standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying that colt?”

They had been asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?”

The experts in the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and, “By the ruler of demons he casts out demons.”

They were overwhelmed by fear and said to one another, “Who then is this? Even the wind and sea obey him!”

His disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing against you and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”

When it was already late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is an isolated place and it is already very late.

and said, “By what authority are you doing these things? Or who gave you this authority to do these things?”

But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.” And all of them said the same thing.

But he denied it again. A short time later the bystanders again said to Peter, “You must be one of them, because you are also a Galilean.”

In the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law – were mocking him among themselves: “He saved others, but he cannot save himself!

When the experts in the law and the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

Now King Herod heard this, for Jesus’ name had become known. Some were saying, “John the baptizer has been raised from the dead, and because of this, miraculous powers are at work in him.”
