accordingly Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.

This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet:

But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is here! Come out to meet him.’

All things were created by him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created.

So in the same way at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.

Thus the law had become our guardian until Christ, so that we could be declared righteous by faith.

And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, because she was fully deceived, fell into transgression.

who has become a priest not by a legal regulation about physical descent but by the power of an indestructible life.

Your riches have rotted and your clothing has become moth-eaten.

This all happened so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled:

But some who were present indignantly said to one another, “Why this waste of expensive ointment?

Then the slave said, ‘Sir, what you instructed has been done, and there is still room.’

Jesus said, “This voice has not come for my benefit but for yours.

So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away – look, what is new has come!

For you yourselves know, brothers and sisters, about our coming to you – it has not proven to be purposeless.

For the one who obeys the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.

Jesus said to them, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of your hard hearts, but from the beginning it was not this way.

For then there will be great suffering unlike anything that has happened from the beginning of the world until now, or ever will happen.

But this has happened so that the scriptures of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.

Then the woman, with fear and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before him and told him the whole truth.
