For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time for prayer, at three o’clock in the afternoon.

Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others who were members of the high priest’s family.

But Peter and John replied, “Whether it is right before God to obey you rather than God, you decide,

you know what happened throughout Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John announced:

And I remembered the word of the Lord, as he used to say, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

Then Paul and his companions put out to sea from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia, but John left them and returned to Jerusalem.

When they had entered Jerusalem, they went to the upstairs room where they were staying. Peter and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James were there.

But while John was completing his mission, he said repeatedly, ‘What do you think I am? I am not he. But look, one is coming after me. I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet!’

Paul said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus.”
