If I do not perform the deeds of my Father, do not believe me.

(Now he said this to indicate clearly what kind of death he was going to die.)

But if I do what I don’t want, I agree that the law is good.

I do all these things because of the gospel, so that I can be a participant in it.

But someone will say, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?”

Then Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by whose authority I do these things.”

(This happened to fulfill the word Jesus had spoken when he indicated what kind of death he was going to die.)

After making Peter and John stand in their midst, they began to inquire, “By what power or by what name did you do this?”

For I do not do the good I want, but I do the very evil I do not want!

So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Then he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question. Answer me and I will tell you by what authority I do these things:

For I have come down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.

And the one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, because I always do those things that please him.”

Jesus replied, “You do not understand what I am doing now, but you will understand after these things.”

but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up, let us go from here.”

(Now Jesus said this to indicate clearly by what kind of death Peter was going to glorify God.) After he said this, Jesus told Peter, “Follow me.”

For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I do not do what I want – instead, I do what I hate.

Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer me doing it but sin that lives in me.

And what I am doing I will continue to do, so that I may eliminate any opportunity for those who want a chance to be regarded as our equals in the things they boast about.

Jesus answered them, “I will also ask you one question. If you answer me then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things.
