The people contended with Moses, saying, “If only we had died when our brothers died before the Lord!

But man dies and is powerless; he expires – and where is he?

“Why did I not die at birth, and why did I not expire as I came out of the womb?

“Why then did you bring me out from the womb? I should have died and no eye would have seen me!

Who will contend with me? If anyone can, I will be silent and die.

“Then I thought, ‘I will die in my own home, my days as numerous as the grains of sand.

all flesh would perish together and human beings would return to dust.

But if they refuse to listen, they pass over the river of death, and expire without knowledge.
