Jonathan said to David, “Come on. Let’s go out to the field.” When the two of them had gone out into the field,

A garrison of the Philistines had gone out to the pass at Micmash.

Then the leaders of the Philistines would march out, and as often as they did so, David achieved more success than all of Saul’s servants. His name was held in high esteem.

We will be like all the other nations. Our king will judge us and lead us and fight our battles.”

So they went up to the town. As they were heading for the middle of the town, Samuel was coming in their direction to go up to the high place.

The men of Jabesh said, “Tomorrow we will come out to you and you can do with us whatever you wish.”

Just when he had finished offering the burnt offering, Samuel appeared on the scene. Saul went out to meet him and to greet him.

Then a champion came out from the camp of the Philistines. His name was Goliath; he was from Gath. He was close to seven feet tall.

I would go out after it, strike it down, and rescue the sheep from its mouth. If it rose up against me, I would grab it by its jaw, strike it, and kill it.

Saul removed David from his presence and made him a commanding officer. David led the army out to battle and back.

But all Israel and Judah loved David, for he was the one leading them out to battle and back.

The next morning Jonathan, along with a young servant, went out to the field to meet David.

David realized that Saul had come out to seek his life; at that time David was in Horesh in the desert of Ziph.

It’s like the old proverb says: ‘From evil people evil proceeds.’ But my hand will not be against you.

He took a pair of oxen and cut them up. Then he sent the pieces throughout the territory of Israel by the hand of messengers, who said, “Whoever does not go out after Saul and after Samuel should expect this to be done to his oxen!” Then the terror of the Lord fell on the people, and they went out as one army.

So David and his men, who numbered about six hundred, set out and left Keilah; they moved around from one place to another. When told that David had escaped from Keilah, Saul called a halt to his expedition.

Don’t keep speaking so arrogantly, letting proud talk come out of your mouth! For the Lord is a God who knows; he evaluates what people do.

Samuel revealed the word of the Lord to all Israel.Then the Israelites went out to fight the Philistines. They camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines camped at Aphek.

Then the men of Israel left Mizpah and chased the Philistines, striking them down all the way to an area below Beth Car.

As they were going up the ascent to the town, they met some girls coming out to draw water. They said to them, “Is this where the seer is?”
