Remove perverse speech from your mouth; keep devious talk far from your lips.

Your children hurry back, while those who destroyed and devastated you depart.

Then you will remember your conduct, and be ashamed when you receive your older and younger sisters. I will give them to you as daughters, but not on account of my covenant with you.

Are God’s consolations too trivial for you; or a word spoken in gentleness to you?

To whom did you utter these words? And whose spirit has come forth from your mouth?

Gaze at the heavens and see; consider the clouds, which are higher than you!

From you, O Nineveh, one has marched forth who plots evil against the Lord, a wicked military strategist.

“As for those who grieve because they cannot attend the festivals – I took them away from you; they became tribute and were a source of shame to you.

I will make you extremely fruitful. I will make nations of you, and kings will descend from you.

The frogs will depart from you, your houses, your servants, and your people; they will be left only in the Nile.”

Then all the peoples of the earth will see that you belong to the Lord, and they will respect you.

But if I say to the boy, “Look, the arrows are on the other side of you,’ get away. For in that case the Lord has sent you away.

May the Lord judge between the two of us, and may the Lord vindicate me over you, but my hand will not be against you.

‘Some of your very own descendants whom you father will be taken away and will be made eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”

He asked you to sustain his life, and you have granted him long life and an enduring dynasty.

O Lord, you understand my heart’s desire; my groaning is not hidden from you.
