Leah said, “How fortunate!” So she named him Gad.

After that she gave birth to a daughter and named her Dinah.

She became pregnant again and had another son, whom she named Onan.

The older daughter gave birth to a son and named him Moab. He is the ancestor of the Moabites of today.

Then Rachel said, “I have fought a desperate struggle with my sister, but I have won.” So she named him Naphtali.

Leah said, “How happy I am, for women will call me happy!” So she named him Asher.

Then Leah said, “God has granted me a reward because I gave my servant to my husband as a wife.” So she named him Issachar.

She named him Joseph, saying, “May the Lord give me yet another son.”

Then she had yet another son, whom she named Shelah. She gave birth to him in Kezib.

Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Yes, do so.” So the young girl went and got the child’s mother.

Manoah’s wife gave birth to a son and named him Samson. The child grew and the Lord empowered him.

So Hagar named the Lord who spoke to her, “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “Here I have seen one who sees me!”

The younger daughter also gave birth to a son and named him Ben-Ammi. He is the ancestor of the Ammonites of today.

So Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, “The Lord has looked with pity on my oppressed condition. Surely my husband will love me now.”

With her dying breath, she named him Ben-Oni. But his father called him Benjamin instead.

When the child grew older she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, “Because I drew him from the water.”

She made him go to sleep on her lap and then called a man in to shave off the seven braids of his hair. She made him vulnerable and his strength left him.

After some time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, thinking, “I asked the Lord for him.

She named the boy Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel,” referring to the capture of the ark of God and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband.

So David comforted his wife Bathsheba. He went to her and had marital relations with her. She gave birth to a son, and David named him Solomon. Now the Lord loved the child
