like the accounts passed on to us by those who were eyewitnesses and servants of the word from the beginning.

And now, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time, you will be silent, unable to speak, until the day these things take place.”

But she was greatly troubled by his words and began to wonder about the meaning of this greeting.

So Mary said, “Yes, I am a servant of the Lord; let this happen to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

But Mary treasured up all these words, pondering in her heart what they might mean.

“Now, according to your word, Sovereign Lord, permit your servant to depart in peace.

She had lived as a widow since then for eighty-four years. She never left the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day.

John answered them all, “I baptize you with water, but one more powerful than I am is coming – I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Then the devil led him up to a high place and showed him in a flash all the kingdoms of the world.

So then, if you will worship me, all this will be yours.”

Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”

All were speaking well of him, and were amazed at the gracious words coming out of his mouth. They said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”

Now Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, and the crowd was pressing around him to hear the word of God.

Simon answered, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing! But at your word I will lower the nets.”

“Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practice – I will show you what he is like:

But the person who hears and does not put my words into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river burst against that house, it collapsed immediately, and was utterly destroyed!”

When they came to Jesus, they urged him earnestly, “He is worthy to have you do this for him,

So Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.
