The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called the Son of God.

Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?”

So listen carefully, for whoever has will be given more, but whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him.”

I tell you that this man went down to his home justified rather than the Pharisee. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Now while Zechariah was serving as priest before God when his division was on duty,

He has demonstrated power with his arm; he has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.

Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized. And while he was praying, the heavens opened,

The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”

Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man does not live by bread alone.’”
