After Jehoiada died, the officials of Judah visited the king and declared their loyalty to him. The king listened to their advice.

The entire assembly worshiped, as the singers sang and the trumpeters played. They continued until the burnt sacrifice was completed.

The entire assembly then decided to celebrate for seven more days; so they joyfully celebrated for seven more days.

The people continued to offer sacrifices at the high places, but only to the Lord their God.

He did not humble himself before the Lord as his father Manasseh had done. Amon was guilty of great sin.

Joram returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds he received from the Syrians in Ramah when he fought against King Hazael of Syria. Ahaziah son of King Jehoram of Judah went down to visit Joram son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he had been wounded.

God’s Spirit energized Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood up before the people and said to them, “This is what God says: ‘Why are you violating the commands of the Lord? You will not be prosperous! Because you have rejected the Lord, he has rejected you!’”

As for the descendants of Aaron, the priests who lived in the outskirts of all their cities, men were assigned to disburse portions to every male among the priests and to every Levite listed in the genealogical records.

While the battle raged throughout the day, the king stood propped up in his chariot opposite the Syrians. He died in the evening as the sun was setting.

Nevertheless you have done some good things; you removed the Asherah poles from the land and you were determined to follow the Lord.”

Then some Levites, from the Kohathites and Korahites, got up and loudly praised the Lord God of Israel.

They abandoned the temple of the Lord God of their ancestors, and worshiped the Asherah poles and idols. Because of this sinful activity, God was angry with Judah and Jerusalem.

Now listen to me! Send back those you have seized from your brothers, for the Lord is very angry at you!”
