While the people were listening to these things, Jesus proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately.

The people also stood there watching, but the rulers ridiculed him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”

And Zechariah, visibly shaken when he saw the angel, was seized with fear.

He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercy,

Everyone went to his own town to be registered.

“And why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?

But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

Now when Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.

She exclaimed with a loud voice, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child in your womb!

but (because they assumed that he was in their group of travelers) they went a day’s journey. Then they began to look for him among their relatives and acquaintances.

for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorns, nor are grapes picked from brambles.

When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew privately to a town called Bethsaida.

So he said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, may your name be honored; may your kingdom come.

Woe to you! You are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without realizing it!”

When he went out from there, the experts in the law and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly, and to ask him hostile questions about many things,

So then whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms will be proclaimed from the housetops.

Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going out to examine them. Please excuse me.’

But Jesus looked straight at them and said, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’?

Not so with you; instead the one who is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the one who serves.

One of the criminals who was hanging there railed at him, saying, “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!”
