For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to himself.”

And every day both in the temple courts and from house to house, they did not stop teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus was the Christ.

They incited the people, the elders, and the experts in the law; then they approached Stephen, seized him, and brought him before the council.

But Saul was trying to destroy the church; entering one house after another, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.

About noon the next day, while they were on their way and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray.

When they heard this, they ceased their objections and praised God, saying, “So then, God has granted the repentance that leads to life even to the Gentiles.”

The whole group kept quiet and listened to Barnabas and Paul while they explained all the miraculous signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them.

As they went through the towns, they passed on the decrees that had been decided on by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the Gentile believers to obey.

The crowd joined the attack against them, and the magistrates tore the clothes off Paul and Silas and ordered them to be beaten with rods.

The jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent orders to release you. So come out now and go in peace.”

After two years had passed, Porcius Festus succeeded Felix, and because he wanted to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul in prison.

But Festus, wanting to do the Jews a favor, asked Paul, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and be tried before me there on these charges?”

But when the Jews objected, I was forced to appeal to Caesar – not that I had some charge to bring against my own people.
