Now Jacob cooked some stew, and when Esau came in from the open fields, he was famished.

“But Esau my brother is a hairy man,” Jacob protested to his mother Rebekah, “and I have smooth skin!

He went to his father and said, “My father!” Isaac replied, “Here I am. Which are you, my son?”

He did not recognize him because his hands were hairy, like his brother Esau’s hands. So Isaac blessed Jacob.

His father Isaac asked, “Who are you?” “I am your firstborn son,” he replied, “Esau!”

Jacob asked them, “My brothers, where are you from?” They replied, “We’re from Haran.”

While he was still speaking with them, Rachel arrived with her father’s sheep, for she was tending them.

“It is not our custom here,” Laban replied, “to give the younger daughter in marriage before the firstborn.

I was consumed by scorching heat during the day and by piercing cold at night, and I went without sleep.

Jacob stayed there that night. Then he sent as a gift to his brother Esau

Then Leah came forward with her children and they bowed down. Finally Joseph and Rachel came forward and bowed down.

They took their flocks, herds, and donkeys, as well as everything in the city and in the surrounding fields.
