“Everyone who divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery, and the one who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

“Now the poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.

So you too, when you have done everything you were commanded to do, should say, ‘We are slaves undeserving of special praise; we have only done what was our duty.’”

Jesus also told this parable to some who were confident that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else.

who will not receive many times more in this age – and in the age to come, eternal life.”

And he summoned ten of his slaves, gave them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business with these until I come back.’

“But be on your guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day close down upon you suddenly like a trap.

But stay alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that must happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Not so with you; instead the one who is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the one who serves.

For who is greater, the one who is seated at the table, or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is seated at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

While he was still speaking, suddenly a crowd appeared, and the man named Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He walked up to Jesus to kiss him.

Then one of them struck the high priest’s slave, cutting off his right ear.

Then a little later someone else saw him and said, “You are one of them too.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”

And after about an hour still another insisted, “Certainly this man was with him, because he too is a Galilean.”

And all those who knew Jesus stood at a distance, and the women who had followed him from Galilee saw these things.

Then he took it down, wrapped it in a linen cloth, and placed it in a tomb cut out of the rock, where no one had yet been buried.

The women were terribly frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?

that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.”

Now that very day two of them were on their way to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.
