Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man and said to him, “Have courage! Get up! He is calling you.”

He called his disciples and said to them, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the offering box than all the others.

For his hands and feet had often been bound with chains and shackles, but he had torn the chains apart and broken the shackles in pieces. No one was strong enough to subdue him.

When they saw him walking on the water they thought he was a ghost. They cried out,

He said to them, “Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

He instructed them to take nothing for the journey except a staff – no bread, no bag, no money in their belts –

He answered them, “You unbelieving generation! How much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I endure you? Bring him to me.”

So the disciples left, went into the city, and found things just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.

But he was silent and did not answer. Again the high priest questioned him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?”

When he was in Galilee, they had followed him and given him support. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were there too.

John wore a garment made of camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.

Then Jesus left that place and went to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan River. Again crowds gathered to him, and again, as was his custom, he taught them.

Then Jesus got up early in the morning when it was still very dark, departed, and went out to a deserted place, and there he spent time in prayer.

They were all amazed so that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits and they obey him.”

He said, “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the gospel!”

Then he cried out with a loud voice, “Leave me alone, Jesus, Son of the Most High God! I implore you by God – do not torment me!”

Now they wanted to arrest him (but they feared the crowd), because they realized that he told this parable against them. So they left him and went away.

But he saw through their hypocrisy and said to them, “Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.”

But he denied it again. A short time later the bystanders again said to Peter, “You must be one of them, because you are also a Galilean.”

Now immediately, when Jesus realized in his spirit that they were contemplating such thoughts, he said to them, “Why are you thinking such things in your hearts?
