One of the criminals who was hanging there railed at him, saying, “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!”

And we rightly so, for we are getting what we deserve for what we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.”

Then they returned and prepared aromatic spices and perfumes. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

Now on the first day of the week, at early dawn, the women went to the tomb, taking the aromatic spices they had prepared.

Then he said to them, “What are these matters you are discussing so intently as you walk along?” And they stood still, looking sad.

At this point their eyes were opened and they recognized him. Then he vanished out of their sight.

While they were saying these things, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

And while they still could not believe it (because of their joy) and were amazed, he said to them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”

Then Jesus led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he blessed them.

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,

So Mary said, “Yes, I am a servant of the Lord; let this happen to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

And the child kept growing and becoming strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day he was revealed to Israel.

but (because they assumed that he was in their group of travelers) they went a day’s journey. Then they began to look for him among their relatives and acquaintances.

Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”

John answered them, “The person who has two tunics must share with the person who has none, and the person who has food must do likewise.”

While the people were filled with anticipation and they all wondered whether perhaps John could be the Christ,

But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, and because of all the evil deeds that he had done,

The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”

But Jesus said to them, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns too, for that is what I was sent to do.”

Now Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, and the crowd was pressing around him to hear the word of God.
