But when the feast was over, as they were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it,

but (because they assumed that he was in their group of travelers) they went a day’s journey. Then they began to look for him among their relatives and acquaintances.

Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”

where for forty days he endured temptations from the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were completed, he was famished.

Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”

Then Jesus, in the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and news about him spread throughout the surrounding countryside.

and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,

Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him.

And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, yet none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.”

Now Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, and the crowd was pressing around him to hear the word of God.

So he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing. Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.

But the news about him spread even more, and large crowds were gathering together to hear him and to be healed of their illnesses.

Jesus was going through the grain fields on a Sabbath, and his disciples picked some heads of wheat, rubbed them in their hands, and ate them.

Jesus answered them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry –

After looking around at them all, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” The man did so, and his hand was restored.

“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.

And if you lend to those from whom you hope to be repaid, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, so that they may be repaid in full.

“Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practice – I will show you what he is like:

Then he came up and touched the bier, and those who carried it stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”
