He said to them, “Are you so foolish? Don’t you understand that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him?

In those days there was another large crowd with nothing to eat. So Jesus called his disciples and said to them,

When he learned of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you arguing about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Have your hearts been hardened?

Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came from the cloud, “This is my one dear Son. Listen to him!”

He answered them, “You unbelieving generation! How much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I endure you? Bring him to me.”

After he sat down, he called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”

Jesus looked at them and replied, “This is impossible for mere humans, but not for God; all things are possible for God.”

Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question. Answer me and I will tell you by what authority I do these things:

So they brought one, and he said to them, “Whose image is this, and whose inscription?” They replied, “Caesar’s.”

Jesus said to them, “Aren’t you deceived for this reason, because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God?

Now one of the experts in the law came and heard them debating. When he saw that Jesus answered them well, he asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”

For they all gave out of their wealth. But she, out of her poverty, put in what she had to live on, everything she had.”

“You must watch out for yourselves. You will be handed over to councils and beaten in the synagogues. You will stand before governors and kings because of me, as a witness to them.

For you will always have the poor with you, and you can do good for them whenever you want. But you will not always have me!

So the disciples left, went into the city, and found things just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.

While they were eating, he took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take it. This is my body.”

Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’

(Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I kiss is the man. Arrest him and lead him away under guard.”)

So Pilate spoke to them again, “Then what do you want me to do with the one you call king of the Jews?”

Because he wanted to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them. Then, after he had Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.
