John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he was not following us.”

If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here soon.’”

When Jesus heard this he said to them, “Those who are healthy don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

When his daughter Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want and I will give it to you.”

But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said, “Should we go and buy bread for two hundred silver coins and give it to them to eat?”

He said to them, “Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

So he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Stand up among all these people.”

Then they asked Jesus to leave their region.

So they went out and preached that all should repent.

After saying good-bye to them, he went to the mountain to pray.

Then he warned them not to tell anyone about him.

When Pilate was informed by the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

So he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis what Jesus had done for him, and all were amazed.

Then the woman, with fear and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before him and told him the whole truth.

He was not able to do a miracle there, except to lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.

They all ate and were satisfied,

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and for the gospel will save it.

In the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law – were mocking him among themselves: “He saved others, but he cannot save himself!

When he was in Galilee, they had followed him and given him support. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were there too.

The people there were amazed by his teaching, because he taught them like one who had authority, not like the experts in the law.
